Here at Middlestown Medical Centre in Wakefield the doctors and nurses take pride in offering the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare. We run many clinics for chronic disease care and offer a wide variety of other medical services such as antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, childhood vaccinations and well-person check-ups.

Extended Hours Pre-book Appointments

Ossett Health Village :

Do you feel ill after work or is your child looking unwell after getting home from school? patients at Middlestown Medical Centre can now book urgent West Wakefield Extended Hours appointment with a doctor or nurse at Ossett Health Village. 

Opening hours are by appointment only 

To book via your practice ring 01924 237100 if the practice is closed ring 111 and ask for this service.

Monday to Friday 6:30pm – 8:00pm

Saturday & Sunday 9:00am – 3:00pm

Telephone Options

When you contact the surgery the receptionist will take your Name , address and contact telephone number and will ask you if you can give them a brief description of why you want an appointment with the doctor or nurse, (this information is optional) but it helps the clinicians that will ring you to prioritise the telephone calls and is very helpful.

To make the best of the telephone system please use the menu provided. If you cannot find an appropriate selection, just hold the line and a receptionist will deal with your call. There is a receptionist dedicated to answering calls at the switchboard, aided by others at busy periods. Also, to ensure that you see an appropriate member of staff who can deal with your problem, reception staff may ask you questions regarding your enquiry. Please note that telephone calls may be recorded for training purposes.

Please remember that when choosing a telephone option from the menu you do not have to wait to hear all the options. If you know the option you require simply choose the one you want as soon as the call is connected – saving you time and money.

Appointments

Appointments are pre-bookable up to 12 weeks in advance. We will try to meet your needs where it is possible, sometimes there is a longer waiting time if you ask for a specific clinician. To book appointments telephone 01924 237100 selecting option 1 for appointment visits. Don’t forget you can also book appointments online and cancel them 24/7. Please ask the receptionist for more information.

We operate a daily call back service. (Monday to Friday.)

Prescriptions

As a dispensing practice we are able to dispense medications to patients from Flockton, Emley and Grange Moor only. All other patients can collect prescriptions and take to a pharmacy of choice or patients can nominate a pharmacy of choice for their prescription to be collected by the pharmacy or sent electronically.  

Pharmacies are no longer able to order repeat medications.  Repeat medication must now be ordered by patients and there are a number of ways you can do this:

  • Contact the practice dispensary team on 01924 237106 (open Monday to Friday 08:30 - 18:00 and Saturday 08:00 - 12:00)  
  • Pre-order the medications you need on the last prescription and hand in to reception.
  • by Fax 
  • Online via SystmOnline

For those on authorised repeat medication you can order online via SystmOnline, see receptionist to get your access information, bringing 2 sets of identification with you.  Online repeat medications can be requested up to 10 days in advance.  However, medications are generally on a 28 day cycle and advanced requests will only be available for collection from the practice dispensary or your nominated pharmacy 28 days following the collection of your previous medication.
